The needle size is 2.5 to 3.0 mm, and the number of stitches ranges from 40 to 72 stitches depending on shoe size. This makes 4-ply yarn ideal for delicate patterns, cable details on the cuff, or simple everyday socks that last for years.

Our bestsellers in this category — Austermann Step 4 Color Exp and the Merino sock yarn — consist of a virgin wool-polyamide blend (75/25), which combines softness and robustness. The color gradients of the Step line automatically create colorful patterns, without any color changes during knitting.

For a pair of adult socks, you generally need two 50g balls — for children's sizes, a single ball is often enough.
