Knit a thick baby blanket
Share
Free pattern for a baby blanket made of thick wool (needle size 7-9)
Materials:
- 400–500 g thick wool (with needle size 7-9, e.g. ggh HUSKY )
- knitting needles size 7-9 mm
- Wool needle for sewing the threads
Mass:
The finished blanket will be approximately 70 x 90 cm in size. Depending on the desired size, you can cast on more or fewer stitches.
Pattern:
For this blanket, we use a simple rib pattern that is nice and stretchy and gives the blanket an interesting structure:
- *2 stitches knit, 2 stitches purl* – repeat this across the entire row.
Directions :
1. Cast on:
Cast on 80 stitches (or a number divisible by 4, depending on the desired width).
2. Knit rib pattern:
Knit in rib pattern: *knit 2, purl 2* alternately until the end of each row.
3. Continue knitting:
Repeat the ribbing pattern in each row until your blanket reaches the desired length (approximately 90 cm or longer, depending on your preference).
4. Cast off:
When the blanket has reached the desired length, cast off loosely so that the edge is not too tight.
5. Sew the threads:
Sew the threads together carefully using a wool needle.
Tip:
With thick wool and large needles, this project goes quickly, and the texture of the ribbed pattern gives the blanket a modern, sculptural look. Thick wool keeps the baby extra warm, and thanks to the easy care of wools like merino or alpaca, the blanket will stay beautiful for a long time.
Have fun knitting!
